The article queried experts in cyber procurement, as well as senior military officials within the Canadian Forces Cyber Command.

EXA President & CEO, Alex McPhail, appeared in the recent Canadian Defence Review (CDR) article entitled “Cyber Procurement: Is it too slow to be safe?” The article queried experts in cyber procurement, as well as senior military officials within the Canadian Forces Cyber Command.

In the CDR article, Alex explained Canadian cyber procurements are handcuffed by antiquated government policies, making cyber procurements too slow and too inflexible. Alex added these inflexible, lengthy procurements produce solutions that are obsolete on their first day of operation.

EXA held its second annual cybersecurity conference in April 2021. Alex led this year’s conference, entitled Agile Procurement in the Era of Cyber. The conference saw guest participation from federal government departments, including Shared Services Canada, Public Services and Procurement Canada, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, together with executives from Bell Canada and the Canadian Cyber Threat Exchange. This year's conference introduced speakers from the USA who shared perspectives on agile cyber procurement in US Government initiatives. Over 100 people attended the conference.
